5.10.2020
The non-profit IT remarketing company AfB gGmbH was awarded a special "Social Purpose" prize in the Digital Leader Award 2020 at the beginning of September 2020. This year, 83 companies, organizations and authorities competed for this prestigious prize. The jury awarded prizes in the categories "Culture", "Project", "Strategy" and "Society".
"On behalf of all my colleagues, I would like to thank you very much for this award," said AfB CEO Daniel Büchle during the virtual ceremony of the Digital Leader Award 2020. "Our goal is to give used IT and mobile devices a second chance at life. Because half of our employees are severely disadvantaged, our processes are barrier-free and meet all data protection requirements."
Following a professional process of data erasure and refurbishment, AfB is able to remarket about two-thirds of the IT equipment it has acquired from private companies or authorities. The remaining IT equipment is professionally recycled within Europe.
What is the Digital Leader Award and its special "Social Purpose" award?
The Digital Leader Award recognizes projects, strategies and success stories that show the success of digital transformation in Germany and its progress. The AfB concept did not really fit into any of the competition categories, but the expert jury, composed of Roger Kehl, Sylvia List, Tijen Onaran, Harald Rudolph, Harald Schirmer, Christian Schlereth, Tobias Schlottke, Lynn-Kristin Thorenz and Heinrich Vaske, jointly decided to award the inclusive organization AfB, headquartered in Ettlingen, Germany, for its social contribution, the "Social Purpose" special award.
